About Delta Handmade

The person behind Delta Handmade is Austin Riley of Portland, Maine. Originally from California, Austin fell in love early with the beauty and complexity of the natural world, and has spent most of their adult life sharing this love with others through art and education. After graduating with a BA in environmental studies, Austin began their career as an informal science educator, providing experiential and hands-on lessons on nature and the environment to members of the public. Always in the background was an insatiable art hobby - sketching, painting, quilting, embroidery, printmaking - and the incessant urge to learn and hone those skills.

Delta Handmade is the culmination of years of disruption and change (“delta” here refers to the Greek letter Δ, which in mathematics refers to the change or difference between variables). As circumstances in the world shift and flow, Delta Handmade represents the artist’s continued optimism, playfulness, and gratitude.
